There is an interesting story today concerning the US Army ordering soldiers to turn in their scopes so that Scriptural references etched into the serial numbers could be scraped off. The references in question are John 8:12 and 2 Corinthians 4:6. Here are the "offensive" verses.
"Then Y'shua spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.' "
"For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Y'shua the Messiah."
Here is how I see this: we have long known that darkness is encroaching upon the world and this nation but in the last few years it has become obvious that this culture wishes to embrace the darkness and eradicate the Light. This particular incident may seem meaningless to some but, to me, it is just another example of how American culture at large and the US government in particular is seeking, literally, to erase anything pertaining to the Light - "Woe to those who call good, evil and evil, good." We shouldn't be surprised at this, however, for Scripture tell us that there has to be darkness in order for the Light to shine.
For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising."
Regardless of how many attempts men undertake to the erase the Light, we have assurances that their love of darkness will simply cause the Light to stand out to the nations even more. Shalom.
