Being able to read and recognize certain Hebrew words in this particular lesson opened a door that will never again be closed. Thank you for the time you have put into making it possible to learn Hebrew.

    • Bill says:

Cynthia; Thank you for taking the time to let me know that this is beneficial to you and for supporting us by being part of this site. Blessings and shalom.

  2. Kristina Lovell says:

Dear Bill, thank you so much for this course! You are a very good teacher. I have one question, however: When I write Sephardic Hebrew words, can the Patach and the Kamatz be used interchangeably or is there a rule I need to abide to? Thank you –

    • Bill says:

Kristina; I will share my understanding but preface it with the fact that I might be wrong. First, I’ve never run across a rule as far as placement of the patach or kamatz when using the Sephardic pronunciation. In fact, it is my understanding that this really only affects the Ashkenaz pronunciation. Most printed materials in Israel don’t contain vowels and, so, I can’t imagine the need for such a rule. So, as far as I know, considering they receive the same sound in Sephardic I wouldn’t see why they couldn’t be used interchangeably. Hope that helps. If I find out something different or more thorough, I’ll let you know. Shalom.
