One Response to On This Day – 29 Tishri

  1. Sue Polston says:

Bill FYI: On the first day of Passover, April 20, 1799 Napoleon issued his proclamation of a Jewish state in Palestine. On May 22, 1799 the Paris newspaper Monsieur Universel announced: Bonaparte published a proclamation in which he invites all Jews of Asia and Africa to gather under his flag in order to re-establish the ancient Jerusalem. He has already given arms to a great number and their battalions threaten “Aleppo”. Does that name sound familiar?
However the the proclamation did not come to fruition, it did increase the drive for Jews worldwide to pursue a sovereign state in Israel . General HQ, Jerusalem 1st Floreal April 20, 1799 in the year of 7 of the French Republic “BONAPARTE, CDR-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMIES OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC IN AFRICA AND ASIA, TO THE RIGHTFUL HEIRS OF PALESTINE” Napoleon’s ideas were also embraced by many who viewed them as a fulfillment of ancient prophecy, even some belonging to the Protestant Church of England. From the city centre of Paris, France to Jerusalem Temple Mount is 1,799 nautical miles!! Interesting! Napoleon had brought together the Jews and the Sanhedrin in Paris. Cardinal Fesch rushed into the room all excited and Bonaparte ask what is wrong? Cardinal said: the “Scripture foretells the end of the world when the Jews are recognized as a constituting nation” Napoleon went into the study w/the Cardinal & they spoke for over an hour. The next day the Sanhedrin was dissolved!
